Joyous day for proud Derek as Kate is honoured with a gong

Good Morning Britain host Kate, 56, wept tears of joy as Derek - disabled by a particularly serious bout of long Covid - was able to join her at the Windsor Castle investiture.

In a heartwarming break with protocol, the mum of two turned to a giggling Derek and gestured, prompting a smile from Prince William.

Kate said, away from the ceremony: "I actually feel very awkward about it all really, I don't know why, because I'm thrilled to bits and incredibly honoured. You just sort of think 'What? Me?'."

Kate, in an off-white ensemble, was watched by dad Gordon and mum Marilyn as she was recognised for services to broadcasting, journalism and charity in the New Year Honours.
