It's time to clear out the rot to stop further scandals

THE latest revelations from a Commons business and trade committee hearing have kept the Post Office Scandal forefront of national attention. And rightly so. This gross miscarriage of justice (the largest in British history) deserves nothing less.

For many of us, it is inconceivable that hundreds of subpostmasters over two decades were prosecuted by the Post Office as a result of errors in its faulty Horizon accounting software. Many were driven to bankruptcy, lost relationships, and tragically four of those targeted even committed suicide.

That it took an ITV drama to help redress the wrongs suffered by sub-postmasters, doing more in a couple of weeks than in the previous 15 years, is even more disgraceful.

As Westminster scrambles to end the misery of more than 500 victims still waiting to be exonerated and compensated, the usual discourse has centred around holding the powers that be responsible.
