Hospitals can recruit new nurses before posts vacant

GRADUATE nurses and midwives have been given a boost under measures to help them find their first job.

Record numbers opted to study nursing in the pandemic but fewer are leaving the profession, raising concerns about vacancies.

Some areas have up to three times as many graduates as posts available.

NHS trusts will now recruit staff on expected need rather than current headcount, which health bosses say will open up thousands of positions.
