Heathrow 'was warned about power days before'

HEATHROW Airport was warned about its power supply days before it closed due to an outage, MPs learned.

Last month, some 1,400 flights were cancelled or diverted and almost 300,000 passengers displaced after a shut down lasting nearly 24 hours.

The incident at the west London airport on March 21 cost airlines up to £100million, MPs on the Commons transport select committee were told.

And it could cost £1billion to protect against closure during a similar power cut in future, the airport's boss said.
