Gaza war 'will last many more months'

IDF chief's warning as Hamas say 241 killed in 24 hours

ISRAEL yesterday warned its war with Hamas in Gaza will continue for "many more months" as 241 Palestinians were reportedly killed in the previous 24 hours.

Despite growing calls for another ceasefire, Jerusalem's army chief said there was no end in sight.

Herzi Halevi, chief of staff of the Israel Defence Forces, declared: "There are no magic solutions." He said the war would continue to ensure "achievements are preserved for a long time". He added: "There are no shortcuts when it comes to dismantling a terrorist organisation except being stubborn and determined in the fighting."

But President Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas called the war a "grave crime" and an unprecedented act against his people.
