'Eyesight risk from cataract op riches'

PEOPLE with serious eye conditions risk losing their sight as doctors prioritise simpler and more lucrative cataract ops, it is claimed.
Campaigners say fewer appointments are now available for patients with glaucoma or macular degeneration.
Labour MP and ex-surgeon Dr Peter Prinsley said the rise in fees paid to private providers for cataract removal led to NHS consultants taking on more private work.
