Dodging disease may hold key to living to 100

PEOPLE who live to 100 suffer fewer diseases than those who die younger, a study suggests.

They are also less likely to experience potentially deadly conditions, such as major cardiovascular disease.

And any illnesses they do have develop more slowly than they do in their shorter-lived peers.

Karin Modig, a professor in epidemiology at Sweden's Karolinska Institutet, led the research.

She explained: "In two recent studies, we analysed and compared long and shorter-lived people born in the same year.
