FAR fewer women today would prefer to be a man than they did almost 100 years ago - and that's down to years of improving equality, say researchers.

Decades of progress mean fewer females want to become men

They have been comparing public attitudes and behaviours as far back as the 1930s with those in 2024 to find out how much society has changed.

And they found just 9% of women now say they would like to switch genders - compared with 37% in 1947. The team behind the study said the results reflect the progress made on women's rights and equality in the UK.

But male attitudes to switching sex have stayed pretty constant, with 5% of men today saying they would rather be a woman, compared to 4% in the 1940s.
