Boss insists rule 'should be enforced'
BBC boss Tim Davie yesterday backed the prosecution of people who evade the TV licence fee.
There have been growing calls to decriminalise nonpayment for over-75s, with some considering it too harsh a punishment.
The row has even led to a private members bill currently being debated by politicians.
House of Commons Library figures show that more than 25,000 people were convicted of evading the £169.50 fee in 2024. It has since gone up to £174.50.
