DIVORCE is one of the biggest financial shocks people ever face, and the damage can continue far into retirement.

New research from Interactive Investor shows that 66% of retired divorcees rely on the state pension as their main income, compared with 45% of married retirees.
Divorce can leave lasting scars, with just 25% expecting to have more than £100,000 in their pension by retirement, compared with 52% of married people.
Divorcees are also more likely to move home in later life, a step that can further erode wealth and increase costs.
