Couple died days apart on Asia holiday

A BRITISH pensioner drank himself to death just days after he witnessed his wife drown in a Maldives scuba diving accident.

Elaine and Malcolm died on dive holiday

Retired miner Malcolm Richmond, 71, passed away in hospital on Christmas Eve. He had been found “heavily intoxicated” at an airport as he waited for a flight home.

Days earlier he had been diving with wife, Elaine, 70, when she was pulled out to sea by strong currents, a double inquest heard.

The couple were regular visitors to the South Asian country and were staying at the luxury Ellaidhoo Maldives resort.
