Businessman is 'among 40,000 alleged spooks'

Yang Tengbo's anonymity order was lifted by the High Court after judges confirmed his exclusion from the UK.

They found the 50-year-old had not been honest about his links to the Chinese state and could exploit his relationship with public figures.

The unmasking has reignited concerns over Sir Keir Starmer's attempts to cosy up to China's leader Xi Jinping and his Communist regime.

Last month, at a G20 summit, Sir Keir became the first British Prime Minister since 2018 to meet a Chinese president.

Speaking before Yang was named he admitted he was "concerned about the challenge that China poses" but defended his approach of engaging with Xi's government.

Meanwhile ex-Conservative leader Sir lain Duncan Smith said Yang, who was previously identified under the codename H6, was not a "lone wolf".

The MP called for China to be placed in the "enhanced" tier of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme when it starts next year.

The Home Office initiative aims to protect Britain from political influence at the direction of foreign powers.
