BRITAIN faces being battered by a new wave of stormy weather - as our pictures capture the moment a roaring sea swell crashes into the coastline

The Met Office says Storm Babet will bring up to eight inches of rain and 60mph winds from this evening.

It could lead to serious flooding, power cuts and even cause buildings to collapse.

The sea gave a taste of things to come on Sunday as huge waves smashed into Tynemouth in the North East.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued across four days from 6am on Wednesday for the North East, Yorkshire, East Midlands, East Anglia, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Babet is the second named storm of the season after Storm Agnes blew up 70mph winds last month.
