Kate back on TV after Derek's funeral

'Being called a widow for the first time took my breath away'

EMOTIONAL Kate Garraway went back to work yesterday, less than a week after the funeral of her husband Derek Draper and told Good Morning Britain viewers she's still getting used to being bereaved.

The TV presenter, who took a leave of absence after Derek, 56, passed away on January 3, revealed being called a widow for the first time had taken her breath away.

And while she said it was "lovely" to be back in the studio alongside co-host Ben Shephard, she wiped away a few tears and admitted she was feeling "wobbly".

Ben read a message from a viewer, which said: "Lovely to see you back Kate, with Ben. As a widow myself, I know those wobbly feelings."

Kate, 56, replied: "The other day, somebody called me a widow for the first time it took my breath away.

"It was an Amazon delivery person who said, 'I'm so sorry for your loss now that you're a widow.'

"And...I suddenly realised what everyone goes through. That every single moment is something new and we've all just got to get through it and everybody has it with all sorts of things they're facing. I really get what people feel about these things."
