Be tickled pink by best fizzy rosés
Daily Express
|June 14, 2025
Is there anything more delicious than a glass of lightly chilled rosé on a warm summer's evening? Don't worry, it's not a trick question. I'm talking of course of adding a little spritz to the occasion with a sparkling style.
The huge growth in rosé sales over the past decade has been one of the major success stories in wine. A style that was once, let's be honest, sniffed at by purists has won massive mainstream credibility.
Back in the 1980s, pink wine accounted for a paltry 2% of all sales. Now one in 10 of every bottle purchased is a rosé - the trend being towards pale, dry types with lower alcohol content. An influx of celebrity makers into the market hasn't exactly hurt rosé, either. They include Miraval Rosé of Provence - once owned by A-list lovebirds Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie; Barrymore's pink, from Drew Barrymore, a pinot noir rosé from California; and Jon Bon Jovi's Diving into Hampton Water - made in Languedoc in the south of France using a southern Rhône blend of grapes.
