Anti-monarchist cancels Commonwealth Games

AUSTRALIA'S decision to axe the Commonwealth Games was based on "political posturing" by an antimonarchist leader, it was claimed last night.
The state of Victoria pulled the plug on the 2026 tournament saying it could not find the cash.
The eleventh hour about-turn, just a year after trumpeting how the Games would be an envied global spectacle, was made by the state's long-standing republican Labor premier Daniel Andrews.
The move has thrown the future of one of the late Queen's favourite sporting events into doubt.
Critics slammed the decision as "politically-motivated" and deeply disrespectful, just 10-months after the Queen's death and in the wake of King Charles's Coronation.
Dickie Arbiter, 82, the late Queen's former press secretary, said: "This is political posturing for the sake of it.
