Animal welfare Bill is 'historic world first'

PEERS have backed a historic measure to protect endangered species from abuse in tourism sectors around the world.

The Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Bill passed its committee stage yesterday without amendments.

Charities want a ban on adverts for holidays where animals are "abused" to perform tricks for tourists.

Duncan McNair, chief executive of Save The Asian Elephants, said: "Our House of Lords has backed this historic measure to protect endless endangered and vulnerable species from extreme violation and death in abusive tourism across the world.
