Every day 240 people wake to the impact of stroke with some unable to move, see or speak. It is also the fourth most common cause of death.
The Express began a Let Stroke Patients Thrive crusade in 2023 for better care and access to thrombectomies, which can remove clots and let some patients return home that day.

The Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme for April 2024 to March 2025 found that only 35.1% of patients had received the vital check.
Juliet Bouverie, chief executive of the Stroke Association, said: "Stroke changes a person's life in an instant.
