Zero-carbon furnaces need fewer staff
BRITISH Steel plans to shut the blast furnaces at its Scunthorpe plant with the loss of up to 2,000 jobs, reports said yesterday.
The company, owned by Chinese firm Jingye, wants to replace them with greener zero-carbon electric arc versions which require fewer workers.
