Mary Poppins, as we know, is practically perfect in every way - and here's why...
-
THE award-winning musical Mary Poppins is flying into Birmingham Hippodrome for a six-week run from Wednesday as part of its UK tour.
Based on the stories of PL Travers and the Walt Disney film, the story of the world’s favourite nanny arriving on Cherry Tree Lane is even more magical than ever before, featuring dazzling choreography, incredible effects and, of course, those unforgettable songs.
The timeless score includes the classic songs by Sherman & Sherman: Jolly Holiday, Step in Time, Feed the Birds and (deep breath) Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. There are also new songs by the Olivier award-winning British team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
Acclaimed Australian stars Stefanie Jones and Jack Chambers will reprise their roles as Mary Poppins and Bert, having both received critical acclaim and nightly standing ovations for their performances in their homeland.
The set comes direct from the West End stage and it needs 17 45ft trailers to move it from one venue to the next, taking four days before the curtain is ready to rise again, with the team working round the clock.
Mary Poppins the largest production on tour with a touring company of more than 100 people. And here are some facts and figures...
