GET MORE ACTIVITY IN YOUR LIFE TO CUT THE RISK TO YOUR HEALTH
-
DURING this chilly time of year, it’s incredibly tempting to rush home and curl up in bed after a long day at work - but keeping your body moving remains essential.
Spending too much time lounging on the sofa means your body isn’t getting the activity that it desperately needs and when activity levels start edging towards sedentary, that’s a signal that something needs to change.
Keiren Douglas, personal trainer at Nuffield Health, has highlighted the potential risks a sedentary lifestyle can have and has shared some great tips on how to gently increase your movement throughout the day.
What is a sedentary lifestyle?
“A sedentary lifestyle is when a person spends most of their time lying down or sitting with very little movement in between resting periods,’ says Keiren. “This could be at home, at the office or driving all day. This doesn’t apply to someone just having one rest day in the week, but more for someone who has less than 150 minutes of exercise of any kind in a week.”
How does sitting down for long periods of time affect the body?
