Residents worried over mystery work at empty city pub

RESIDENTS in Coventry have raised concerns after work began at the site of a dilapidated pub.

The Grapes on Radford Road has been closed since 2019 and since that time it has been the subject of numerous planning requests - but it has also been the target of antisocial behaviour. A fire in 2021 left the pub looking a shell of its former self.

Planning requests to demolish the building in 2019 and 2020 were refused by Coventry City Council. There have been ongoing protests and campaigns by residents and former regulars to save the site.

Plans submitted in June 2022 were granted for the change of use from public house to public house and restaurant on the ground floor and a 17 bedroomed House in Multiple Occupation (HMO).

This planning permission came with a number of conditions.
