Lampard frustrated at failure to finish off Oxford

FRANK Lampard admitted that his Coventry City players could and should have secured victory in an impressive first half of chances, only to give Oxford United a “lifeline” back into the game.

The Sky Blues twice gave up their lead at the Kassam Stadium where Haji Wright opened the scoring but Will Lankshear levelled shortly after from the second phase of a free-kick. Victor Torp then restored the lead before the break with a wonderful dead ball strike, only for City to concede from another set-piece 15 minutes from time before Wright spurned the opportunity to snatch victory at the death.

Asked for his overriding emotion from the 2-2 Championship draw, the head coach said: “Disappointed to drop points. They made the second half difficult for us, without a doubt, but the first half was probably as good as you can play without being two, three or four nil up.
