Former Argos demolished as huge city project starts

City Centre South is the biggest redevelopment project in the city centre since it was rebuilt after being devastated during World War II. It has started with the bulldozing of the former Argos building in City Arcade on Queen Victoria Road.

Housebuilder The Hill Group (THG) will be delivering the multi-million-pound project in partnership with Shearer Property Group. It will transform outdated and under-used post-war buildings into a thriving city quarter, Cllr Jim O’Boyle said.

Representatives from THG and Homes England joined Councillor O'Boyle and Mayor of the West Midlands Richard Parker at the development site to mark the beginning of the transformational project. It is being funded by Coventry City Council, supported with more than £100m from the West Midlands Combined Authority.
