Call for 'realism' about pub bought by council for £1m

NEW photos show mouldy walls, damaged roof timbers and waste strewn around an eye-sore former pub in St Austell which is owned by Cornwall Council.
The town's MP has called for "realism" over the future of the General Wolfe building, which was bought by the council in summer 2022.
Pictures show the extent of disrepair to the building, with damage to the roof, ceilings, walls, kitchen and bathroom.
The council is understood to have spent around £1 million on the Grade II listed building on behalf of its housing arm Cornwall Housing with a view to using it to provide temporary accommodation for homeless people. However, councillors said in February 2023 that the conversion had become "financially unviable".
