City of Wells

THE ladies played their first fixture of their Wild League campaign at Castle Cary, beginning their defence of the title they won last season.

Playing in difficult weather conditions, all three rinks were losing at halfway before a strong team performance in the second half resulted in all three recording a winning score. The final result was 66-41 to Wells, earning the maximum 12 league points.

Rink scores: A Churches, E Morley, H Willerton 21 shots (Castle Cary 11); L Sykes, C Jenner-Timms, C Skeates 25 shots (Cary 21); C Pringle, R Allen, A Midwinter 20 shots (Cary 9).

The men’s latest Mid Somerset League game was also at Castle Cary, however they only managed a win on one rink as the hosts as Cary came away with a 55-40 success.

Rink scores: P Henry, J Manvill, C Higgins, A Denning 12 shots (Castle Cary 16); L Palmer, R Fisher, D Higgins, A Whitehead 10 shots (Cary 26); P Mays, P Kirk, M Rawle, A Wickham 18 shots (Cary 13).

In the Somerset County League, the men travelled to Keynsham B who only had 11 players instead of the usual 12. This meant they had to sacrifice 25 per cent of their score on the rink with only three players.

Wells played well to win on all three rinks, despite the home side's deduction, to secure a 74-49.5 victory and the maximum 12 league points.

Rink scores: J Rossiter, E Norris, M Rawle, A Wickham 19 shots (Keynsham B 16); L Palmer, G Howell, F Rossi, A Whitehead 32 shots (Keynsham 13.5); M Strudwick, T Collingwood, J Manvill, A Denning 23 shots (Keynsham 20).

Queen Camel were the visitors to the Rec for a four-rink mixed friendly. With enough players to choose from for this fixture, Wells were able to loan four players to the visitors - Sheelagh, Pam, Tony C and Tim.

The loanees all contributed to the visitors as Camel won on three of the rinks and drew on the fourth, winning 64-53 overall.
