Historic derby for teams

WITH both of their senior sides’ Bristol & District League fixtures being washed out on Saturday, Chilcompton Sports were able to make use of the better weather on Sunday to face Hampset in the North Somerset League.

‘The young Development side were put into bat and got off to a rough start with a lot of early wickets lost to a disciplined bowling attack. At 51-6, Billy Penny was holding up an end without much support despite a couple of handy cameos from under-15 players Barnaby Rees-Davies and Tom Warner.

Eventually Penny fell for a well-made 55 from 49 balls, which included ten boundaries. Dan Gloudemans and Brad Hancock defended the bad ball and took runs where possible to pull Chili up to a low-looking 107 all out.

Hancock and Cory Hawkins pegged Hampset back with some tight, disciplined bowling alongside some impressive fielding which yielded a wicket for the former via a Penny catch in the covers. Despite the low total, Purchase rang the bowling changes and kept Hampset under pressure.

Rees-Davies and, on senior debut, Warner, both managed to pick up a wicket, while Dan Rogers took a sharp one-handed catch in the slips. Hampset though chased the target relatively easily with only four wickets down.

Match-ball sponsor: Steve Davis Builders.

i Having lost their first game of the season last time out, Chilcompton’s under-15 Heat side travelled to local rivals Midsomer Norton and suffered a similar fate by 37 runs.
