Dining treat that's not just for Alan Partridge

YOU'VE probably driven past it many times. You may even had stopped for petrol or diesel. But there is far more to this garage than meets the eye.

- JASON EVANS

I was tipped off about the place by a friend who raved about its brilliant breakfasts.

I must confess when he told me about his breakfasts at a petrol station on a busy dual carriageway, I had in mind an Alan Partridge-like image of someone warming a pasty in a microwave (no offence to my friend). But he kept going on about it, so I checked it out. And I'm glad I did.

Hollol Gymraeg is a little gem in a most unlikely location - the Nantycaws filling station a few miles outside Carmarthen on the eastbound A48.

My first few attempts to get in failed when I turned up en route back to Neath from out west and found the place fully booked - even for mid-week lunch - which speaks volumes about the place.

But calling ahead means I now never miss out, and Hollol has become a regular stop whenever I'm heading home from Pembrokeshire.

Go through the doors of Hollol and you find yourself in a modern, bright and welcoming eatery with large windows overlooking the rolling hills of Carmarthenshire.
