Introduce BC Bill, ensure 50 pc reservation in legislative bodies: R Krishnaiah urges PM Modi

Rajya Sabha Member and President of the National BC Welfare Association. R Krishnaiah, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce a BC Bill in Parliament to ensure 50 per cent political reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in the legislative bodies.

He made this appeal during a meeting with the Prime Minister in Vijayawada on Friday evening.

Krishnaiah thanked the Prime Minister for the Centre's decision to conduct a caste census, calling it a historic step toward ensuring justice for marginalised communities.

Emphasising the need for proportional representation in a democratic system, Krishnaiah noted that BCs, who constitute nearly 56 per cent of the country's population, continue to be under-represented in political institutions due to the absence of reservations in the legislative bodies.
