Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged her countrymen to “drive out the anti-liberation and anti-culture forces” under the Mohd Yunus-led Interim Government, and_ raise Bangladesh's head high on the global stage.

Hasina urges Bangladeshis to ‘drive out anti-liberation, anti-culture forces' under Yunus regime

In a Pohela Boisakh message on the Bengali New Year, Hasina, who is living in exile in India, lashed out against the Islamic fundamentalist leanings of the Interim Government which forced the renaming of the ‘Mongol Shobhajatra’ into ‘Anondo Shobhajatra’, following prompting by the Islamic radical Hefazat-e-Islam party.

She termed the Islamist forces who forced the name change as enemies of Bangladesh.

“Those who dared to change the name of Mangal Shobhajatra, those who engage in such heinous conspiracies against our heritage and culture, are enemies of the nation, enemies of our culture, enemies of Bangladesh. The people of this country will never let them succeed,” she said.

Referring to the ouster of her Awami League government on August 5 last year by the so-called students’ movement, and the installation of an army-backed Interim Government, she said:

“Today, anti-liberation forces have illegally seized power in Bangladesh. They are actively trying to destroy Bengali culture. Whenever anti-independence forces gained control in the past, they attacked the nation’s history, heritage, and culture. They not only tried to stop the Mangal Shobhajatra, but even attempted to change its name.”
