Akshaya Tritiya, also known as 'Akha Teej’, is a very holy festival celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month according to the Hindu calendar. 'Akshaya' means that which never decays (destroys). This is the reason why this day is considered very fruitful for auspicious works, charity, investment and new beginnings. This day is especially dedicated to the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu. It is believed that by worshipping, fasting and donating with a true heart on this day, not only happiness and prosperity are attained in the present life, but also Akshay Punya is attained for the next births.

According to the Puranas, Satya Yuga and Treta Yuga started on this day. Lord Parshuram was also born on this day. It is mentioned in the Mahabharata that on this day Yudhishthira received the Akshaya Patra, due to which there was never a shortage of food grains. Akshaya Tritiya is considered extremely auspicious for works like marriage, house-warming, starting a business, buying property, or gold-silver or land investment. On this day, work can be started even without any Muhurta.
