HISTORY records a now famous and relevant quote by Lord Acton in London in 1887. “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
Acton’s quote was a precursor to his belief that unchecked power poses the greatest threat to human freedom. We see this playing out in various ways in North Korea, Libya, Russia and Israel where absolute power is the cornerstone of these regimes.
