Hawks boss under fire for 'selective memory'

Hawks head Major-General Lesetja Senona believes that it was not inappropriate to advise suspected crime kingpin Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala to haul SAPS National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola before the courts over the termination of a multi-million rand contract awarded to Matlala’s firm.This emerged when Senona faced intense questioning at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry yesterday over his claim he did not know that Matlala was involved in the Tembisa Hospital tender scandal linked to whistle-blower Babita Deokaran's murder.

In his testimony on Tuesday, Senona told the commission about a meeting KZN police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi hosted on April 15, 2025, at his homestead to discuss Matlala’s purchase order disputes related to his Medicare24 company's R360 million SAPS contract to the SAPS Pretoria College.
