Stellies' battle for stability continues
Cape Argus
|November 05, 2025
STELLENBOSCH FC's inconsistency has been a defining theme of their season so far, and as they prepare for another crucial Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC at the Athlone Stadium, they once again find themselves in a must-win situation.
Their troubles deepened after a 2-0 defeat to TS Galaxy in their previous league outing — their sixth loss in just eleven matches.
While much of their struggles are understandable—particularly for coach Steve Barker, who faces the challenge of rebuilding his squad with new players each season—the football gods remain unforgiving, and right now, they seem on course to deliver a harsh punishment.
Past success counts for little in the present, and unless Stellies rediscover their rhythm soon, they could find themselves in the same predicament that befell their neighbours, Cape Town City, before their relegation.
Like City, there was always a belief that a turnaround would come, but the hole only sank deeper, and with no rope long enough to pull them out, they were left reaching for the light — trapped in the depths of the lower ranks, still chasing the dream of return.
