AMENDMENT WOULD INTRODUCE ACADEMY TRUST INSPECTIONS

THE Government has put forward an amendment to its flagship schools Bill to introduce inspection of academy trusts.

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has tabled an amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill setting out plans for Ofsted to inspect multiacademy trusts, as previously promised in the party's election manifesto.

Academy trustwide inspections will look at how well trusts improve schools, the quality of their education, how they use resources, and how well they care for the wellbeing of pupils.

The Bill will already introduce new intervention powers for when trusts are not meeting expected standards that could see their schools moved elsewhere.
