THE COUNCIL REFUSED PLANNING PERMISSION AFTER OVER 30 OBJECTIONS WERE LODGED BY NEIGHBOURS

Couple blocked from building family home after backlash

A COUPLE has been blocked from building a new 'sustainable family home' after a backlash from neighbours to the plans.

Proposals had been put forward by Daniel and Sarah Austin to build a new home on land to the back of 80 and 82 Lovell Road in Cambridge.

Cambridge City Council refused to grant planning permission for the project after over 30 objections were lodged by neighbours.

Lee Wood, one of the objectors, told councillors at a planning committee meeting on Wednesday (October 1) that he and many of his neighbours "strongly urged" councillors to oppose the plans.

He told the meeting that he had three main concerns about the project, including highway safety, the impact on the character of the area, and the "harmful precedent" he claimed the development would set.

Mr Wood argued that building a new access road off Lovell Road would create an "unacceptable risk for pedestrians and drivers".

He also said the plans were a "classic example of inappropriate backland development".
