PCC: New M&A thresholds reflect economic conditions

THE Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) has raised the thresholds that determine whether mergers and acquisitions must be notified to the regulator, saying the figures were adjusted to reflect changes in economic conditions.
Under the revised rules, the Size of Party (SOP) threshold has been increased to P9.1 billion from P8.5 billion. The Size of Transaction (SOT) threshold was raised to P3.8 billion from P3.5 billion.
The new thresholds took effect on Sunday, March 1. From that date, parties to a merger or acquisition will be required to notify the PCC when both the SOP and SOT exceed the updated levels.
