Anti-political dynasty law to displace 5,000 officials

As the plenary debate on the Anti-Political Dynasty bill is set to start on Monday, the chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms said the measure could displace more than 5,000 dynastic officials nationwide.

Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, the panel chairman, presented data demonstrating the significant impact of House Bill 8389, “An Act Prohibiting Political Dynasties in National and Local Elective Offices.”
To ensure the committee’s version is based on solid evidence, Adiong said the panel worked closely with the Socioeconomic Research Bureau (SERB) under the Congressional Policy and Budget Research Department (CPBRD) of the House of Representatives. SERB studied official election data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) covering provincial, district, and municipal positions.
