Trees felled to help restore fire-damaged York Minster

WHEN fire extensively damaged York Minster in July 1984, an appeal was immediately launched to restore the landmark.
A particular appeal was made to landowners nationwide for oak trees. These were not only needed for the roof but to replace unique wooden panelling inside the minster.
One of the first to respond to the call was the Duchy of Lancaster Estate which offered one of the finest specimens of oak tree in the Needwood Forest.
