LONG-SERVING Alrewas opening bowler Craig Swinfield took a hattrick to set up a five-wicket win for his side away to Ticknall in the Derbyshire Premier Division on Saturday.

And while there is no such thing as an ordinary hat-trick, with this one he had the distinction that all three victims were former Derbyshire players and all strong batsmen.

Swinfield had Tom Wood leg before for 32 from the last ball of his third over, halting a charge that had seen Wood score all of his runs from 18 balls in boundaries.

Paul Borrington went the same way to the first ball of Swinfield’s next over, for 13, and Greg Cork was caught behind by Stephen Cole from the next ball.

They were to be Swinfield’s only three wickets as he finished with 3-48 from eight overs.

Luke Harvey (31) and Richard Woodburn led a recovery, taking the score to 90 but after that wickets fell regularly again.
