|September 24, 2025
THE National Forest is celebrating UK Fungus Day with a range of fun, free events for all the family.
Moira Furnace Museum and Country Park is hosting the Forest Fungi Day from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, October 4.
It will bring the fascinating world of fungi to life through guided walks, interactive displays and creative activities for all ages.
People are encouraged to explore the forest, which is home to a truly strange, weird, and wonderful fungal kingdom right on your doorstep.
Highlights of the day include two guided woodland walks with ecologist Beverley Rhodes at 10am and 1pm, giving people the chance to discover and identify a wide range of fungi while learning how they support healthy woodlands.
These walks will also officially note the species found on the day - important records that help show the health and biodiversity of the forest.
