SEND boost Council green lights £1.7m for 25 new places at school

PLANS to create more school places for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) have taken a major step forward.
North Somerset Council has approved the allocation of Department for Education funds to pay for a new SEND resource base at Gordano School in Portishead.
The new 25 places at Gordano School will be on top of the 331 new SEND school places which have already been created in North Somerset over the last five years.
Money paid to North Somerset from the Department for Education (DfE) specifically to be used to create SEND provisions will fund the resource base, which will cost around £1.7 million to deliver and is expected to welcome students in September 2026. The DfE will make the final decision on whether to proceed.
