Football Manning calls for patience over striker's contract situation

LIAM Manning has drawn comparisons between Nahki Wells' current contract situation at Bristol City and that of Joe Williams at Ashton Gate last summer, insisting that just because the striker is yet to pen a new deal, it doesn't mean he won't in future.

Wells has been a regular starter for the Robins this term, despite many expecting him to play a more reduced role at the start of the campaign following the arrival of both Sinclair Armstrong and Fally Mayulu.

The increased competition meant the 34-year-old had to wait until October for his first Championship start of the season but since then he has lead the line on 26 occasions in the league.

Only Anis Mehmeti has scored more league goals than the Bermudian international so far this year and Wells even popped up with what proved to be a crucial assist as the Reds secured a play-off spot against Preston North End on the final day of the season.

Despite his impressive showings over the course of the last nine months, Manning insists that the former Huddersfield forward is yet to sign a contract extension in BS3, with his current deal due to expire this summer.
