Council Plans to make parks pay despite 'challenges and conflicts'

CASH-STRAPPED council chiefs want to make more money from Bristol's parks.
Increased charges, a greater number of commercial events and new opportunities for advertising are among the ideas set to be looked at as ways to cover the existing budget and pay for future improvements.
The council says it manages more than 430 parks, with the service costing £14.8 million over the past year. Around £2 million of this came from general council funds with the remainder from commercial sources and other funding.
On Friday councillors on the public health and communities committee will discuss the formation of a new “task and finish group” to review commercial and income generating activities in parks and through city events.
