Bike thefts Six bicycles stolen daily in city neighbourhood

AN area of Bristol is among the country’s worst for bike thefts.

Last year, there were 246 reports of bike theft in Bristol’s city centre and the Harbourside neighbourhood, far more than anywhere else in the South West.

It was also the sixth highest total among more than 7,000 neighbourhood areas in England and Wales. Last year, Avon and Somerset Police recorded 2,211 crimes of bike theft - that’s the equivalent of six bikes stolen every day.

After the city centre, Bristol's nearby Temple Meads district had the next highest number of thefts (142), followed by University and Brandon Hill (91). Outside the city, Weston Town had the highest number of bike thefts in North Somerset (38), and Great Stoke & Stoke Park had more cycles stolen than anywhere else in South Gloucestershire (37).
