Active city Plan to protect sports pitches

BRISTOL City Council has promised to protect existing sports pitches “wherever possible” under a new strategy designed to improve provision for future generations.

The authority has launched a seven-week public consultation on its draft Playing Pitch Strategy which identifies the city lacks a surplus of playing fields and asserts all current sites should be preserved wherever possible.

Chair of the public health and communities policy committee Stephen Williams said: “Playing pitches are more than just spaces for sport, they are places where communities come together, where health and wellbeing are supported, and where young people develop skills and confidence.

“As a city we're renowned for our green space and the home of many vital grassroots sports clubs which play a pivotal role in supporting healthy and resilient communities.”
