Councillor's concern if bus stop and layby relocated for homes
Brentwood Gazette
|April 23, 2025
DEVELOPERS have been cautioned against plans that might see a bus stop layby being removed as part of a housing scheme in Ongar.
A councillor is worried that new homes planned on Bowes Field near the Four Wantz junction in Ongar will result in the bus stop and layby being removed and replaced by an access road.
Councillor Jaymey Mclvor, who represents Ongar, fears that a new bus stop without a layby could be built down the road opposite the entrance of Great Stony Park. They add this could result in traffic congestion and safety issues because of what could be risky overtaking manoeuvres.
His concerns come as two developers - This Land and City & Country - embark on proposals to deliver about 230 new homes on two locations in Ongar.
As many as 135 new homes could be built off the A414 opposite Springfield Close and 99 on an adjacent area off the high street.
