Chris Webb's attempt to defend Blackpool (January 1) was so obviously a plea to please reelect me come the next election.

Nothing terribly wrong with this, after all every MP adopts the same tactic to try and retain his or her seat.
However, in this case Webb tries to cover up or minimise some real and crucial problems that make his home town one of the most deprived in England and Wales.
The Indices of Deprivation identity neighbourhoods NOT towns or people. These indices refer to deprivation not poverty, they are connected but are different.
