AFC Fylde proved they could “battle with the best of them” to go top of the table before one of National League North's matches of the season.
Saturday's 1-0 victory at Marine lifted the Coasters three points clear of South Shields, who visit Mill Farm for a mouthwatering clash this evening.
Luca Thomas’ 54th-minute strike sealed victory on Merseyside, though it was a “bittersweet” day for head coach Craig Mahon.
Mahon told the club's media team: “It wasn't a great performance but we've won 1-0. It's what good teams in this league do, so I'm delighted for the lads.
