Charity celebrates giving out £700k as it prepares to wind up operations
Blackpool Gazette
|September 22, 2025
A Fylde charity is winding up its operations - after giving away more than £700,000 in grants and donations over the past 14 years.
In 2010 Fylde Soroptimists sold properties the organisation owned in St Georges Square, St Annes and used the monies received from the sale to set up their charity - Soroptimist (Fylde) Limited - Speak Up for Women.
The charity was fully launched in October 2011, when grants were first given from the investment interest and the capital retained for larger projects.
Since then, the money handed out in grants and donations includes £100,000 to the Lowther Pavilion, which was a key ingredient in its £3m Windmill extension, which incorporates an education centre as well as a performance space.
